GRAPES & WINEMAKING

Planting commenced in Mt Surmon Vineyard 1995 with subsequent plantings in 1998 and 2000. Only estate grown fruit is used in our wines. We aim for minimal intervention to produce a clean style of wine showing the uniqueness of our terrior, with complex structure, driven by fruit with complementary oak and a balanced lingering finish.

With our eastern facing vineyard slopes, we have no trouble ripening our fruit and do not have to rely on oak to make a statement. Our wines are fruit driven.

We have kept abreast of the emerging demand for 'alternative varieties'. To supply this growing market, five years ago we planted Nebbiolo (originally from the Piedmont), Pinot Gris (from Alsace) and Viogneir (from the mid Rhone Valley).

Interestingly, we have bottle fermented both the Pinot Gris and the Nebbiolo with most excellent results and we have made a port style wine based on Nebbiolo.
